Who We Are?

Our Story

Welcome to Little Sprig Farm!

We are Little Sprig Farm’s married duo:

Daniel (Reuben) and Olivia Stanfield.

It is a tale as old as time – country boy meets city girl and brings city girl to the country. Who knew that what started as a non-negotiable in our marriage – “must live on dirt roads” – would plant seeds for all our greatest dreams. We truly believe ourselves to be a sprig because like many (hopefully you!) who jump into farmsteading and self-sufficiency, you often start small bringing in different branches of knowledge, talents, and passions from a life worth living.

At the start of our story, we found ourselves in a difficult position of uncertainty and anxiety and we had to decide to follow our dreams and do what we love or continue grinding away at a job to “make money.”

Daniel has always been the planner and he often lives inside his head, but with nothing less to lose, he took a chance and courageously started what is Little Sprig Farm.

Each one of his dreams and thoughts and plans morphed into larger goat pens, 100’ vegetable rows, and wheels and wheels of irrigation tubes to pull, straighten, and align. We brought home two Nigerian doelings, Sweet Tea and Buttercup, and now have a herd of 17 with intents to grow. Also, never trust a farm-steading husband that says he is only picking up [insert animal here] and comes home with pigs, turkeys, and a livestock guardian dog!

With hard work and a persistence to constantly adapt and face challenges, Daniel is able to make Little Sprig Farm his sole priority while Olivia continues to teach special education at a middle school.

We call ourselves “Team OR” (Reuben and Olivia) because we could not do it without each other and, let’s be honest, Olivia is the best animal whisper and weed puller that Little Sprig Farm could ask for.

We both have a serving spirit and believe that all the little things we do at Little Sprig Farm should help and inform our local community. We want healthy food to be available and natural body products to be used! It humbles us deeply and daily when we hear how our efforts have changed peoples’ lives and we hope to continue to do so.
